William E. "Bill" McClellan, 73, of Wichita Falls, TX, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Bill was born on April 4, 1940, in Paterson, New Jersey, to the late William Cole and Alison (Barton) McClellan. Bill's mom sang in the Alison Barton Band and Orchestra while his father served as a police sergeant there in Paterson, New Jersey.
Bill attended Paterson Central high school and later graduated from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where he was a member of the Tau Delta Phi fraternity. He majored in music education and also completed the Air Force ROTC program. He was also a member of the university's orchestra and served as drum major with the Rutgers marching band. Upon graduation from Rutgers, Bill was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Shepherd Air Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. It was when he moved to Texas he fell in love his Texas girl, Betty Marilyn Bird. And they were married March 27, 1964.
After completing his service in the Air Force, the couple moved to New Jersey where Bill taught instrumental music at Paramus High School. In the late 60's the couple returned to Wichita Falls where Bill worked as a contractor for Builders Supply until 1987. He subsequently worked until his retirement for the Texas Dept of Health and Human Services.
He is preceded in death by his wife Betty McClellan.
He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law Matthew and Claudia McClellan of Amarillo, Texas, and Timothy and Kimi McClellan of Wichita Falls, Texas, five grandchildren; Jordan Bass and Callie McClellan of Amarillo, Texas and Katherine, Kelsey and Truett McClellan of Wichita Falls, a sister Alison McClellan of Toms River New Jersey and a niece Alison Monte of Brick, New Jersey.
