Paramus High In the News - 1961

[Restored from the Ken Tashian Email Archives]

[Editor's Note: The following was part of an emailer from Ken sent on May 5, 2021.]

Thank goodness Maria Spagnuolo ('62) kept so much "stuff" from her formative years or I would soon run out of content.  Not to worry, there's lots more from where this article from.

Amazing how much press the high school received as everything was fresh and newsworthy.  It's great that so many kids received shout-outs for volunteering and participating.  It wasn't until today that I read the purpose of the Letterman's Club; "To serve school and community and the betterment of Paramus High School athletics."  Very cool and admirable.

I actually remember all three of the events listed, except for the Lettermen's Dance.  It wasn't until the spring of 1961 when Dennis Kocse ('64), Bob LaBianca ('64) received varsity letters in wrestling.  Too late for the dance, but quite remarkable that freshmen received varsity letters.

The pep rally is indelibly etched in my memory.  First year Coach Newell introduced the wrestling team as we trotted onto the gym floor (see team picture below) in our tights and singlets.

These were good times worthy of recalling.
