2024 Scholarships Awarded

The 2024 Ken Tashian Memorial Scholarships

The Scholarship committee comprised of Dave Oshinsky, Caryn Starr-Gates, Laurie Morlini-Valdetara and Stan Cohen, previewed a detailed list of 168 applicants. Dave developed a system by which we could objectively score the students according to the criteria established and have a by-the-numbers evaluation. On our first pass, there were very few overlaps of candidates from the four of us, as in no consensus. We compared and evaluated in realtime what each of us saw in each other's candidates. This was an interesting development compared to other years. It was my impression that this year we put more emphasis to the service to PHS and the greater Paramus community aspect. Leadership was important as usual.

The three scholarship awards were awarded on June 12, 2024 to the following Seniors (left-to-right):

Rebekah Hong will attend the honors college at Rutgers University, studying art and design at the Mason Gross School of the Arts. She was a National Honor Society, German Honor Society and National Art Honor Society member and served on the student government.

Ella Rohdieck—who recently earned Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America—was also a member of the National Honor Society and will pursue her bachelor’s in nursing at Saint Anselm College.

Kimberly Diaz will attend New York University to pursue her B.S. in business and political economy. She was a member of the National Honor Society, National Business Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society.
