Dr. Benjamin Barbarosh, 60, of Millburn, assistant superintendent of the Paramus school system, died Saturday, May 10, 1975, in Overlook Hospital, Summit. He supervised public school students in psychological testing, psychiatric consultation, speech therapy, supplemental instruction, guidance services, and programs for handicapped children.

In 1962, Dr.  Barbarosh was appointed by Supt. George W. Hodgins to the then newly established post of research and guidance director. Ten years later he was appointed assistant superintendent of schools for pupil services.

In 1967, Dr. Barbarosh received the first annual award from the New York Council for Industry-Education Cooperation for his Vocational Resources Directory. The directory was a handbook listing the occupations of consultants to secondary school students.

Prepared with the cooperation of the Rotary, Lion and Kiwanis clubs, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Jaycees, the directory was used by the school staff to supplement the career planning of high school students. It allowed students to make an appointment with a professional in an occupation of interest. At the time of the award, Supt. Hodgins said Dr. Barbarosh's directory had met with nationwide response and that a large demand had been created in school districts, professional organizations, colleges, and universities.

Dr. Barbarosh was born in Newark and lived in Millburn for the last 15 years. Hew was graduated from Panzer College, East Orange, in 1936, and received a master's degree in educational administration and supervision at Seton Hall Universiry in 1947. In 1970, he received his doctorate in educational psychology and guidance from Yeshiva University.

Dr. Barbarosh began his teaching career in Newark in 1943 as a physical education instructor. He had served 25 years in the Newark school system, and was head guidance counselor at the Weequahic High School before coming to Paramus.

Dr. Barbarosh formerly taught graduate level courses at Seton Hall, Montclair State College, Yeshiva University, and Fairleigh Dickinson Univerity. He is listed i "Who's Who in American Education," "Who's Who in the East," "Leaders in American Science," "Directory of International Biographies," "Community Leaders in America," and "National Register of Prominent Americans."

He was a former campaign chairman for the Essex Society for Crippled Children and Adults, and the Millburn Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation Institute. Dr. Barbarosh was secretary of the National Association of Pupil Personnel Administrators. He was also on the regional board of the B'nai B'rith Vocational Guidance Service of Northern New Jersey.

Surviving are a daughter, Roslyn Barreaux of Millburn; a son, Dr. Howard Barbarosh of Fullerton, Cal.; a brother, Nathan, of Tucson, Ariz., and three grandchildren.
