In Memory

Joan Baillie (Lamond) - Class of 1976

Joan Baillie Lamond

January 9, 1958 - December 4, 2022

Joan B. Lamond (nee Baillie) passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 4, 2022, after a few years’ battle with cancer.

Born to William and Evelyn Baillie on January 9, 1958, she grew up in Paramus, NJ, the youngest of four children.

Joan graduated from Paramus High in June 1976, and attended Cook College at Rutgers University, earning a degree in Environmental Sciences. Joan enjoyed a 14-year career in the restaurant business as a bartender at the Ground Round in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. During that time, she earned a comprehensive science teacher’s certification at William Patterson College (waiting for the day she could afford to be a teacher- LOL), qualifying her to teach any science subject.

After marrying John Lamond in 1995, Joan began a 25-year career as an enthusiastic science teacher. Most of those years were at Garfield High School teaching Environmental Science and Chemistry. Joan particularly enjoyed attending the students’ plays, concerts, and sporting events. “Go Boilermakers!” She also supervised the Environmental Club and Fishing and the Fishing Club’s annual trip at Garfield High. Joan was particularly proud that her son Jack followed in her footsteps as a certified science educator.

Joan’s hobbies included baking, with Scottish shortbread a seasonal specialty that everyone loved. She baked it every single day during each December to give out to friends and family during the holidays and though the winter. She was a 23 yr. member of the American Legion Post 415 and loved gardening perennials and tending to her tomatoes! She was an avid fan of the NY Yankees, Giants, Rangers, and Knicks, and of course, Rutgers University teams-particularly during her son Jack’s time there as a member of the Marching Scarlett Knights, the pride of New Jersey.

Joan is survived by and will be greatly missed by her loving husband John, her adored son Jack; siblings Doug (Dory) Baillie, Janice Baillie (Keith Loynachan), and Leigh Baillie (Bruce Cohen), along with her aunt, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Memories of Joan’s quick wit, fun spirit, festive holidays, and devotion to her family will bring many future smiles to all in her life.

Interment at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
