Steve Breitenstein died in 1969 . He was in a horrible car accident on route 9W, in Alpine NJ .2 others were killed.
He was a great guy and friend. That day he came by where I worked and tried to get me to quit early. If I had he might be alive or--- He was funny and very smart .
I think about him a lot.
He was also friends with my brother Graham Bremner who died of a stroke 2 weeks ago.
Steve was a very good person - we were good friends at Spring Valley School and there, in Cavallo's 7th grade class, partners in science projects/experiments that involved electrical fires, rockets and chemical explosions. Great fun of course... In 1969 I was away from the NJ area and missed his funeral but thought then that although 19 and immortal, life can be taken away in a moment. His shocking death was the first time I took the time to think about mortality...
