David Johnston

David Milton Johnston, 83, of Durham, NC, passed away on February, 17, 2026, at Duke Hospital.
He was born on November 6, 1942, to the late Milton Johnston and Estelle Koren Johnston in Passaic County, NJ.

David was self-employed at Johnston Tile and Marble Company. Throughout his second half of life, he remained dedicated to service as an outreach counselor for AmeriCorps VISTA Wyoming Oxford Houses, an American Red Cross volunteer for blood drives, and a volunteer at Hope Lutheran Church during Mother’s Day celebrations.
He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Ayers (Jamie), Lisa Johnston and Kimberley Murray; his grandchildren, Sandra and Sarah Shankin, Marquis Hunt, and Anissa Williams; his sister, Nancy B. Johnston-Zwick, his brother, William S. Johnston; and his nephews and nieces, William Todd, David Paul, Elizabeth Anne, Julia Pezzullo and Michael Zwick.
