I had the pleasure of knowing Bob through the Astronomy Club. He was a nice guy to share our interest in astronomy. Bob and I also enjoyed chemistry. His cousin, George Leicht '63, was also a good friend in Astronomy Club. The three of us spent many hours grinding a telescope mirror in the chemistry stock room.

I recall one story from Bob at a reunion years after graduation. He said that he, a chemist, was flown out in a helicopter  from Hawaii to rendezvous with a US nuclear sub that had a contamination spill needing his expertise to clean up. He was lowered onto the deck by a tether and the sub then quickly re-submerged once he got below deck. At dinner with the sub's officers he had the joy of telling them he had dinner the night before with their wives whom the officers had not seen in several weeks while on patrol. Bob was always good for an amusing story.

I like him.
