Bob Marietta - Class of 1967

Robert Philip Marietta

Robert Philip Marietta, PHS Class of 1967
December 19, 1948 – February 18, 2022

Robert Philip Marietta, age 73, of Mc Intosh, Florida passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022. ROBERT was born December 19, 1948.

Posted on behalf of daughter, Jennifer:

Friday I joined a club no one wants to be a part of. I lost my dad due to complications with pneumonia. He passed away peacefully in Florida with both of my brothers at his side. I was on my way but didn’t make it in time. Although his health has been declining lately, This happened quickly. He was stubborn, loyal to a fault and generous. He was very proud of his Italian heritage. My dad was so much fun to be around and had a contagious laugh. I will remember his life lessons and anecdotal stories. I know next month I will miss him calling to tell me my “birth story” which was his tradition. It’s hard to fathom that I won’t see his name on my caller ID (at the most in opportune times) and hear “What’s happening Little Girl?”, my nickname since I was born and yes it’s a reference to All In the Family.

He and I argued politics for as long as I can remember and always ended up laughing in the end. My dad loved Family, Florida and Harley Davidson but nothing as much as his grandsons. His grandchildren meant the world to him and the same man who wouldn’t give me $4 to fill up my Volkswagen Beetle bought his grandson a car. My dad was a Vietnam Veteran and a Purple Heart recipient and he taught me to love this country. He could be as crazy as the day is long but everyone who knew him loved and respected him. He will be missed by so many and we are certainly heartbroken.

Please pray for my brothers and I as well as Jake who just adored his grandpa and thought he was the funniest, craziest man ever! Maybe he was!

Ah, Marvin.  We didn't hang out often back then, but when we did it was fun.  Anytime you got together with him, Finch, and the Scorpion you had to buckle your seat belt.  We got together at the 40th and had a good, long and memorable talk.

A really good man.  He is greatly missed.

I remember Bob driving my brother's 57 Chevy - leaving yards of rubber and hitting 120 mph on Rte 17.  He and Finch used to terrorize Ridgewood and we all loved it!

Always a solid dependable friend.  RIP.

Thank you for your service Bob!  I've said this to you before.and I will again posthumously.  Like most veterans of the Vietnam war, you did not receive the respect and gratitude for serving your country that you should have, and that hurt remained with you during your post war life.  Bob and I had many discussions both publicly on Facebook, and privately often around politics where our opinions were quite different. They were always respectful and honest and he was never shy about expressing exactly what he thought or felt. My condolences to Bob's family, rest in peace!

Bob, Sorry to hear of your passing, I did not know you well in high school, we played football together that was about it.....and now reading your daughter's post I am sorry I didn't. I just hope my kids will write as eloquently.....Rest in peace and all the best to your family.
