Maryanna Scott (Hudak) - Class of 1964

Maryanna A. Hudak (Scott) Paramus High School Class of 1964

Long-time Middletown resident Maryanna A. Hudak, aged 76, passed away May 5, 2023 in Magnolia, Delaware. Loving daughter of William and Marie Scott, She was born in the Bronx on January 21, 1947 and married Gary D. Hudak on November 27, 1969 in New Jersey. Shortly after getting married, the couple relocated and settled in the Middletown area. They were married for over 53 years and were residents of the Middletown area for over 45 years before relocating to Delaware. Her loving husband Gary, survives her.

Maryanna was a 1964 graduate of Paramus High School. In the early 1990’s she went to SUNY Orange and earned her Associates Degree while also working full time at the college and raising her family. She was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Society and was proud to earn her degree in 1993.

Maryanna was the secretary for the Math, Sciences and Engineering Departments at SUNY Orange for well over 25 years. However, she wasn’t just “a secretary.” Her fellow coworkers said that she was the glue that kept their departments together and running. Even after she retired, Maryanna would still organize social events where past and current faculty & staff members could get together and catch up.

She loved to play games! Cards, bingo, and mah jong, were amongst her favorites. She was an avid reader, often times spending her lunch breaks sitting in her car with a cup of coffee and a book. Maryanna was also a big college basketball fan - always cheering on the SUNY Orange team. In her home, there was always a pot of coffee on, something cooking on the stove, and something sweet to eat for after.

Her life was her family. She was one of 5 siblings and they were all very close. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Elizabeth Toolen and her brother George Scott. She is survived by her brother William and her sister Rita (Ted). Maryanna and Gary became bereaved parents early in their marriage when they lost their beloved daughter Cassandra Anne on June 7, 1971. She adored and spoiled her 6 grandchildren. Selena (and her partner Evan), Griffin, Alex, Connor, Ksenia, and Elsa - they will not only miss her, they will also miss receiving random boxes in the mail filled with “goodies” from their loving Grandma. Maryanna is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that were also considered family.

Her greatest and lasting accomplishment are her two daughters, Anissa and Suzanne. She raised two independent, kind and loving women - and we, her daughters, will be forever grateful that she was our Mother.

Since Maryanna was a bereaved parent, in lieu of flowers, she requested that you generously donate to St. Jude's Hospital or the Ronald Mc Donald house in her memory.
