Ira Goldberg

Ira Goldberg, 79, passed away on August 13, 2026, after an extended illness.
Born September 21, 1946, Ira was raised in the Bronx and in Paramus, NJ. He graduated from Columbia (BA, MA) and Fordham (JD), served as a Lieutenant in the Navy, and practiced law for many years. He is survived by his sister, Mona Goldberg; his daughters, Shoshana Goldberg and Franny Rittenberg; and his granddaughter, Penelope Rittenberg.
Interment at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, in the I.E. Hantman Family Circle plot.

Lou Bivona (1964)
All HEART!!! Ira gave it all. Always when I think of our HS football days my first thought is of Ira fighting like hell in the trenches. The more he got knocked down the more he would smile. You would think he was trying out for the NFL. He taught me a big life lesson. I admired Ira. That was the way he lived his life. God will except Ira with open arms.

So many memories of Ira Goldberg. The best was of Ira crawling aound the hallway floor shouting out that he lost his contact lens!

Ira was a great teammate, respected by all. On the field he personified dedication, determination, courage, and most of all heart. He practiced everyday as if it were the most important game of the season. His example was inspirational and provided me great perspective during my years as a coach. My sincere condolences to his family.

Ira was a chilhood friend, fellow cub and boy scout and teammate on the track team. I remember him as an intelligent, sensitive and genuinely nice person. When we reconnected at our PHS Class 45th and 50th reunions, I was not surprised to learn that he had served as a gunnery officer on a destroyer during the Vietnam War, as his childhood dream had been to be a naval officer, and had since become a general-practice attorney in New York, which was clearly a reflection on his intelligence. My favorite memory of Ira was spending a week with him at Camp NoBeBoSco when we were 11, living in a lean-to, freezing at night and telling endless ghost stories. Ira - you will be missed. RIP.
Deborah Gregory (Riedel) (1964)
Ira and I each moved into Paramus when we were in fourth grade. We were in the "G" homeroom together all through PHS and he always started everyone's day with a big smile. My husband (Bob Riedel '63) and Ira both played clarinet in the band. The entire PHS band was cheering for Ira when Coach Peck put him in the football game. At the most recent class of '64 reunion in 2023, Ira's joyful countenance was still there! He was a good and faithful classmate and friend. Our sincere condolences to his family.
