Anna Tonon Colnaghi, 92, of Jacksonville FL, formerly of Paramus, died September 10, 2002.
A life-long educator she was also known for her environmental, political and church activism. She was much loved and respected by her students and colleagues and was a guiding force and support for the Future Teachers of American throughout her professional life and into retirement.
She began her teaching career at Garfield High School where she taught English and established the schools Guidance Department. She also founded and was the first President of the Garfield Chapter of the New Jersey Education Association. Leaving Garfield, she continued here teaching at Paramus High School eventually serving as Assistant Principal there until her retirement.
In retirement, she continued to be active in education serving as president of the Bergen County Chapter of the American Association of University Women. She was also appointed as a Senior Intern from New Jersey to the United States Congress. Mrs. Colnaghi attended Paterson Normal School, graduated from Rutgers University and received her MA in Education from Montclair University.
She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Visitation R.C. Church in Paramus. Beloved wife of the late George Colnaghi. She is survived by her sons George of Princeton, NJ and John of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Interment at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson.
