Margaret Mulcahey Smyth
August 7, 1953 - June 3, 2023
Margaret “Maggie” Smyth- adoring wife, Nana, sister, aunt and godmother; a friend to all who knew her, as well as continual recipient of BEST MOM EVER award, passed away at age 69 after living a life well worth remembering. Following a strong fight at Tampa General Hospital, she was called to heaven in order to be our guardian angel on Saturday June 3rd. She was surrounded by love and comfort by all including having her husband and son at her side.
Maggie was born on August 7th, 1953, to her mother Martha and father Robert Mulchaey. She is survived by her best friend, high school sweetheart, prom date and adoring husband of 47 years Robert “Smitty” Smyth, son Jason, sister Martha and brother Mike. Sadly, losing daughter Lindsay in 2010 allowed for a strong relationship with beloved grandson Evan.
Everyone who met her spoke of her charismatic charm, ability to always find the best in any situation and genuine compassion had for others. It was her pursuit to make a difference and help people that led to a nursing degree with honors making her parents and seven siblings proud. Maggie grew up in New Jersey, raised in Paramus then relocating to South Jersey to raise a family and have successful career loved by all that we’re fortunate enough to work with her. Moving to Cape Coral, FL, with Smitty she enjoyed the boat and dock in the backyard, pool she designed to include dolphins and most of all watching the sunset while having her feet up with a drink.
Maggie had a passion for living life to the fullest and always seizing the day. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends, loved ones, and always meeting new people. She will be remembered fondly for her incredible attitude and positive outlook on life; that along with her sunny disposition caused many people to gravitate towards her. She was an excellent cook that invited many people to the home shared with husband Smitty. Her parties and get togethers over the years were legendary where stories were shared, and new memories created; a great time for all was guaranteed.
She traveled the globe extensively. From playing with monkeys in Malaysia to swimming with dolphins in the Caribbean. Maggie always tried to follow love and laughter, but the truth was it was always following her.
Many thanks to the countless people that reached out during her illness; everyone stood by her through it all until the end. She enjoyed reading all the greeting cards that were sent, and then used to decorate her room in the ICU. Thanks, as well to the kindhearted nurses, doctors and surgeons at Tampa General hospital that gave her the utmost care.
Maggie’s remains will be scattered in the ocean as was her mother and father at a private event. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
