Mr. George L. Preissler
HACKETTSTOWN - George L. Preissler, 94, died October 11, 2010. He was born and lived most of his life in Union City, NJ before moving to Hackettstown in 2005. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Augusta; his beloved wife Dorothy; and daughter June.
George is survived by his daughter, Dorothy and her husband Robert Weis; his grandchildren Robert and his wife Eva Maria and Andrea and her husband Matthew; and his greatgranddaughters, Sara and Megan.
George worked for the Path Train system before being drafted in June 1941. Serving as a staff sergeant in the 226th artillery battalion, he left for the Pacific theater of war in late December, 1941 and did not return to the United States until September 1945. His remaining work years were spent in deliveries for Miller's Abattoir in North Bergen, then with the custodial staff of Paramus High School.
He was very active in his church, St. John's Lutheran in Jersey City, spending many years on the church council and then enjoyed the fellowship of his 'adopted' church, Long Valley's Zion Lutheran. George was happiest when with his family and friends, he will be missed by all who knew him.
Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Fairview, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the House of Good Shepherd in Hackettstown or the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund in Long Valley.
