Mr. John Hovsepian
Hovhannes "John" Hovsepian, 80, longtime resident of Paramus, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on August 26, 2021. He was the son of the late Krikor and Ovsanna Hovsepian. John was employed as a lithographer with Gotham Graphics (30 years) and then worked at Quality House of Graphics (10 years). After his retirement in the graphic arts field, he was employed at Paramus High School (10 years), endearing himself to faculty, staff and students.
His strong faith led him to serving as Parish Council Chairman at Holy Cross Armenian Church in Union City, singing in the church choir, becoming an ordained Deacon and serving on the altar every Sunday. John belonged to the Knights of Vartan for over 50 years and was Past Commander of his Lodge. He was also a member of the Masonic Order and Past Master of Blue Stone Lodge.
John had a lifetime passion for soccer, and played the position of goalie with the Armenian National Team in Beirut, Lebanon. He was one of the founders of the Paramus Soccer Association, coaching indoor/outdoor and travel teams for boys and girls soccer for 25 years. In 2000 he was named "Man of the Year" by the Paramus Recreation Commission for his many years of exceptional leadership and success as a soccer coach. He later became a soccer referee, officiating at high school varsity games throughout Bergen County.
Most importantly, his first love and priority was always family. John is survived by his beloved wife of over 48 years, Vivian Vezirian Hovsepian. Devoted father of Jon Vartan Hovsepian (Armene), Joy Maral de los Reyes (Juan), and Joseph Nishan Hovsepian; Cherished, loving and proud grandfather to his six grandchildren Vana, Vatche, Olivia, Zaven, Christian and Alina. Dear brother of Hagop Hovsepian (Satenig), Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian, Arshagouhi Tavitian (preceded in death by Mardiros) and Dikranouhi Kirazian (George), and dedicated uncle to all his nieces and nephews. He will truly be missed by all who had the great pleasure of knowing him…a man with the heart of gold.
Interment at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to St. Leon Armenian Church.
