Robert "Bob" Norring
August 1942 - January 25, 2025
Robert E. Norring Jr. of St Petersburg, FL passed away on the 25th of January 2025. Bobby, as he liked to be called, was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1942 and then relocated to Paramus, NJ when he was young. He graduated from Paramus HS in 1960 as a member of the first graduating class. He lettered in multiple sports and held the school record for the mile.
He then went on to attend Western Illinois University before joining the US Army in 1964. He eventually returned and graduated from Western Illinois University with a BA in Finance. Bobby settled down in Bergenfield, NJ where he found success with multiple financial firms and began his family.
In 1983 Bobby and his family made the journey to Florida and found their place in Sarasota. He devoted decades of his life to the Florida Department of Revenue and found his calling educating people about the joys of intangible taxes. Aside from his passion for taxes, Bobby really enjoyed exercising and lifting weights. He often boasted about how much he could lift and loved putting the younger ones to shame. After maxing out on his incline bench press, he found a new challenge and began helping his daughter’s father-in-law with a mission of his own: building a log cabin on the side of a mountain in North Carolina. It was an achievement he was truly proud of being a part of.
He was happy enough in the Sunshine State, but his heart belonged to the mountains of Utah, and he eventually made his way out there, settling down near Salt Lake City. Bobby would often travel back to Florida to visit his children and grandchildren, whom he adored. After many years out west, he decided to move back to Florida so he could be closer to his family. Bobby was a lover of the outdoors and of all animals (even snakes). He was a master of “Dad Jokes” and always liked to push your buttons just far enough. He was a good friend and would be the first to step up and lend a hand when needed. Bobby is survived by his sisters Lynne Norring (Class of ’63) and Jane Piccirilli (Class of ’70), his son Rob (Jordana), daughter Nikki (Jerry) and his four beautiful grandchildren: Grayson (12), Rayna (9), Jerry (10) and Caleb (7).
