In Memory

Jackie Levin - Class of 1964

Jackie Levin, Paramus High School Class of 1964

Jackie was a hospital social worker overseeing patient benefits and discharge planning at the county hospital. She was universally respected and liked, and loved her job. She also volunteered at the Oakland Zoo and The Berkeley (CA) Food Pantry, always advocating for those unable to speak for themselves. She was actively involved in local and national politics, from canvassing to postcard writing, to volunteering in campaigns. She and I were married for 25 years, the best years of my life and, to hear her tell it, hers also. She became ill and in her decline, we had 24 hour caregivers so she could live at home. She was comfortable and well cared for. She died peacefully in my arms Monday, December 19, 2022. She told many stories of her Paramus High years. Even then, she was a fierce advocate for social justice and social equity. That was her mission in life. In addition to me, she is survived by her younger sister, Ronnie Levin, also a Paramus High graduate. We miss her terribly.

Jackie played a sexy, short-skirted "Friday" in a lame skit I wrote about "Robinson Crusoe" in Mr. Sanzari's class. I followed some cut out footprints on the stage that led me to Jackie's leg - which I booped into -- and then I looked up at her, and out to the audience to get the laugh. She was a beautiful woman. See you in heaven. Love.

Jackie Levin was a dedicated Social Worker in California her entire work life.
Jackie and I loved our Sociology and History classes and being on Student Council at PHS. In August of 1964 we begged our parents to allow two 17 year old girls go alone to Atlantic City to try to observe the Democratic National Convention.  Fortunately some Paramus people who were NJ delegates said they would watch over us.  Amazingly they were able to get us tickets to be at the convention the night Lyndon Johnson and Hubert Humphrey were nominated!
Jackie remained politically active in California advocating for those in need.  Rest In Peace dear Jackie.

Jackie Levin was a true friend. The sort that you might not see for quite a long time and when you came together again you took up as though you had seen each other just the day before. She was more like family than friend. In fact her whole family was always there to offer a helping hand. She was just retired and entering a new happy chapter of her life when her illness began. I miss her still.

Jackie & I shared many fond memories during our PHS days, especially those great football victory parties the Turner's alway held. I also enjoyed her Dad folling the PHS baseball team and was always at every game. I am very happy that she had a very fulfilling life in CA. and was glad she had some to share good times with.
