Bring Back Sammy the Spartan!
Sometime in 2009, our 50+ year old mascot was changed from something original and steeped in tradition to a run of the mill knock off that looks borrowed from USC or a Texas High School. According to administration officials, the change was intended to provide a “standard and more modern look.” After 50 years, it is probably safe to say that there already was a standard, a standard that is widely recognized and embraced by more than 10,000 graduates of Paramus High School.
The issue is not only what was done, but how it was done. There was no community outreach, nor was any effort made to seek the opinion of the alumni. If you feel that tradition trumps modernization, then I need you to cast your ballot in favor of bringing our old mascot.
The plan is to collect alumni votes and present a compelling argument to the Board of Education to change the Paramus High School logo from a nameless knockoff to the original “Sammy the Spartan.” Click on Vote Now above
