Obituary

Richard “Rich” G. Redy, 70, of Seaside Park, passed away in the morning of Thursday August 26, at his residence. Born in Paterson NJ, he spent most of his life at the Jersey shore.  Rich graduated Paramus High School and put his talents and abilities to use in a wide array of professions over the years.  He utilized his carpentry skills working for various construction companies and as a construction manager with Hill International Inc., in Iraq.  He also worked as a commercial fisherman and applied his talent for persuasion in car sales.

As an avid fisherman and boatman, Rich was deeply committed to protecting the environment and passionate about nature and being outdoors.  He was truly in his element being out on the water with a fishing rod in his hand.  A regular and favorite spot to find Rich would be oceanside, in his parked car, with a cup of coffee and the newspaper.

A lifelong learner, Rich enjoyed a good book.  His extensive knowledge of history, geography and current events made him an engaging storyteller. He was an animated conversationalist who could strike a conversation with anyone, especially within the camaraderie of friends. Rich was a classic rock enthusiast, and a walking encyclopedia of band facts, album dates, and concert trivia. A lifelong Giants fan, Rich always looked forward to Sundays during football season.

Rich was predeceased by his beloved wife Christine Celeste Redy and his father Richard Redy. He is survived by his mother Rita Sterling Redy and sister Patricia Westman of Seaside Park, brother Ronald Redy and wife Barbara of New Gretna; his two sons, Colin Redy of Spring Lake,  Mark Redy and daughter in law Corynne Redy of Little Egg Harbor, and their mother, Joan Moore Shapiro;  grandchildren, Kait, Tyler, Bailey and Abby and two great-grandchildren; his niece and nephew, Karin Westman Londono and husband Ruben, Josh Redy and wife Traci; and grandnieces Gabriela and Melina Londono.  He will be missed by his feline companion, Tiger.
