Dear PHS Alum:
As many of you know, Ken Tashian, Class of 1964, was a tireless supporter of Paramus High School. He did this through his one-man creation, administration, and continual upkeep of two websites: PHSClassof1964.com and ParamusSpartans.net. The Paramus Spartans website enables all of us to retain a lasting connection to PHS and to each other. Currently, more than 22,000 PHS alumni are listed! Both websites were funded solely by Ken from their inception until his untimely death—just a few months shy of his 75th birthday—in May 2021.
PHS Alumni Association is now a reality
One of Ken’s dreams was to create a Paramus High School Alumni Association. We are pleased to report that, thanks to the efforts of several Class of ‘74 alumni, the Paramus High School Alumni Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established in August 2021 in honor of Ken’s long-time goal. You can read more about its mission and goals.
Part of the alumni association’s mission is to provide undergraduate scholarships. To that end, we announce the creation of the Ken Tashian Memorial Scholarship.
The Ken Tashian Memorial Scholarship
The Ken Tashian Memorial Scholarship—the first for the PHS Alumni Association—is to be awarded to a graduating Paramus High School student who embodies Ken’s lifelong Spartan spirit. The student is someone who has served the Paramus High School and the Paramus community through the following:
Applicants will write a short essay (up to one page) that showcases how they have demonstrated these attributes during their time at Paramus High School, and how they foresee their participation or activities will influence their college years and beyond.
Additionally, the student with academic achievement and financial needs are considered as well as recommendations from Principal Ray Kiem, faculty and the guidance department.
Show your Spartan spirit and pay it forward!
We are asking our fellow PHS alumni to launch this scholarship to help worthy students bring their Spartan spirit to college. Your donation to the Paramus High School Alumni Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, is tax-deductible. Use this QR code or use our donate link with a credit/debit card online.
You can also contribute by mailing a check made payable to Paramus High School Alumni Association to:

We are excited about the future of the PHS Alumni Association and especially about the creation of its first scholarship, in honor of someone who deserves lasting recognition for his contributions to the school and generations of PHS grads. We thank you in advance for your tax-deductible donation so we can kick off this scholarship and fund additional initiatives for years to come.
Thanks so much for your Spartan Spirit.
Sincerely,
