Sometimes in life, there is that one friendship that lasts from childhood, into adult hood, and until death. That's how it was with my friend George. We became close friends in 1971, at the age of 11. By 1972 our friendship was tested by horrible lies & accusations by two teachers in East Brook Middle School. I was 12 and could not fully understand the gravity of the situation, until my brother Richie explained it to me. It was like the movie "The Children's Hour" with Shirley MacLean & Audrey Hepburn, but only opposite. The lie & rumor about my good friend and myself was started by teachers which targeted children. However, going thru such horrors only strengthened our bond of friendship, especially in our adult years. George moved to Florida in 1978 after the death of his mother in January, 1978. Our mothers died within 3 weeks apart in our Senior Year. I eventually moved to Fort Lauderdale to work in the hospitality business in 1990. Our bond of friendship became stronger than ever. We made each other laugh so hard, as if we were back in time in our teenage years getting into trouble. When I knew George was dying from Lymphoma due to his immune system being compromised by the AIDS Virus, I moved closer near his apartment. I was his caregiver at the end. Our class alumni and dear friend Sylvia Ahlberk came to visit George just before he passed. I was at his bedside along with many friends when he took his last breath. Even today, almost 28 years after George's death, I can still burst out laughing with the many awesome memories I have of my great friend. Love you, George!! Your forever friend Andy D'Angelo

The last thing I would like to say to all of my classmates that may have grandchildren: Please be aware of those children that are students in grade school thru high school. They might also be attacked physically or mentally by a teacher or staff member at their school. Listen to what they may be telling you. Don't shake it off. Check it out and see if there is any merit to their story. More importantly, listen to the one's that are silent and don't say a word about their physical or mental abuse by an adult in their school. Look for signs of fear in certain words. Look for signs of fear at certain tv shows, movies or news outlets. Look for signs of fear because they have to go to school. They may probably miss school a lot without their parents knowledge. They may be getting into trouble at school, and their grades made be slipping. The silent one's like me, will carry the deepest scars and pain throughout their lives. Let's protect our children, PLEASE!!
