In Memory

Philip Menthe - Class of 1975

CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN (One of his favorite songs from musical Sound of Music)

Phil said he was an only child with five parents (two older brothers and a sister). The inscription below his yearbook picture envisioned the path that he forged.

His professional accomplishments were many. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with an architectural degree he honed many technical and negotiating skills. Serving in the U.S. Air Force he traveled the world and lived overseas.

Phil was blessed with an exemplary life that demonstrated that it is possible to succeed in all areas of life without being selfish. Together with two sons and his wife he established a traditional home and life that was gracious, warm and supportive. Above all, he was loving and solidly connected to his immediate family, community and professional colleagues.

My brother lived his faith. He was wise, honest, intelligent and compassionate. He was the Maslovian ideal of the self-actualized person. Although retired, in 2009 he volunteered to go to Iraq to teach young soldiers how to defuse roadside bombs.

Selfless, service oriented he was a trailblazer who lead by example both in life and even in death. Phil was the "best wingman" in any situation. He will forever be our true hero.
